What is visible decluttering?
Visible Decluttering is the concept of only removing the clutter that you can actually see when you walk into a room.
We’re not going into cabinets or drawers. Phew! Exhale. We’ll save those for another day.
A great place to start Visibly Decluttering is the refrigerator.
As natural collectors, we gather coupons, artwork, pictures, magnets, and reminders and place them in a centrally located place. The most common Command Zone is the kitchen. It’s definitely the heart of my home.
The concept of Visible Decluttering involves removing anything that is not necessary to the aesthetics of a room. In other words, if it ain’t pretty, hide it. The goal is to create as much open space and counter space as possible. We are looking to see the room, not the things.
However, if I’m not careful, the fridge is covered and the top has boxes of cereal, plastic containers, and lined up lunchboxes. It’s messy, but I’m so used to it I’m immune to the clutter.
Using the concept of Visible Decluttering on my refrigerator, I removed everything from the doors, sides, and top. I didn’t even open the doors to remove leftovers and expired condiments, I just focused on removing anything I could see when I walked into the room.
Not only is Visible Decluttering very simple, it’s also very quick.
Keeping in mind that Visible Decluttering is tidying up what we can see, there are two rules to follow to ensure you declutter quickly and efficiently:
Rule 1: Trash If it’s trash, throw it away.
Rule 2: Lost and Found
If it belongs in another room, take it there.
If you can follow these two rules, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll start decluttering.
That’s it. No big decisions about donating today.
With my Visible Decluttering Kick-Start Guide, we will declutter one room a day in your home. Following a simple checklist is all that is required.
This is a great way to get your feet wet decluttering.
You will see that you actually don’t need as much stuff out as you thought you did, and you’re going to fall in love with your home and the bright, airy ambiance it will create.
This glimpse will motivate you to start decluttering with a deeper, bolder approach.
