I'm Katie, your professional home organizer and nothing makes me happier than decluttering, organizing, and making things look pretty!
Welcome to The redhead Minimalist
In this post: You’ll learn 5 ways to lose the mental weight and declutter your life.
Think about packing for a flight. We all know our suitcase has to be under a certain weight limit, or we’ll pay the price—literally. When the bag is overstuffed, the solution is simple: remove a few things.
But what about our mental clutter?
It’s not as visible, but it’s just as heavy. The overloaded thoughts, decisions, to-dos, and expectations—we carry them around every day, and they’re exhausting.
It’s time to lose unrealistic expectations that are weighing us down.
Simplify your home and routines so your brain can rest.
There will always be endless possibilities—and when we’re faced with too many, analysis paralysis can sneak in from the mental weight. Our brains short-circuit, and suddenly even small decisions feel overwhelming.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do is just decide. Choose a direction, stick with it, and give yourself the gift of forward momentum.
When your home is simplified and your routines are clear, your mind can finally exhale.
Fewer choices = more energy for what truly matters.

Release what weighs on your conscience and fine peace.
From items you’re keeping out of obligation to routines or roles that no longer serve you—it’s okay to let them go.
Guilt is very heavy and adds considerably to mental weight.
We’re constantly evolving, and what worked for a past version of you might not fit who you are today. That’s not failure—that’s growth.
A lot of us hold onto things because we feel guilty about how much we spent on them. But here’s the truth: the money was spent the day you brought it home. Now, it’s just taking up precious real estate in your space and your mind.
Unless you’re truly willing to invest the time and energy to sell it, chances are, you won’t get that money back.
But you can get something even better—your space, your peace, and your freedom.
I used to joke that I was the Queen of Good Intentions.
That’s really all “someday” is—just good intentions dressed up with a glue gun and a Pinterest board. We’ve all been there. But let’s be honest: someday rarely shows up, and carrying around all those maybes can start to feel really heavy.
It’s time to let go of the projects, clothes, and to-do list items that whisper maybe one day—and make room for what matters right now.
Got a craft closet overflowing with supplies for scrapbooking, sewing, knitting, or crocheting? Bless and release. If it were truly a priority, it probably would’ve happened already.
You’re not giving up—you’re giving yourself permission to focus on what lights you up today. And let’s be real… you can admire someone else’s quilt without needing to make one yourself.
Free yourself from the pressure to keep up with Pinterest-perfect homes.
Your space should reflect you—not someone else’s highlight reel. And really, you should reflect you, too.
Fast fashion has taught us to constantly chase the next trend, making us feel like what we loved last season is suddenly so out. It’s expensive, it’s wasteful, and honestly? It’s a sneaky little message that we don’t know what we like. (Looking at you, skinny jeans.)
I hear what the fashion gurus are saying… but I also trust myself. I know what feels good in my home and on my body. And that’s more important than following the ever-changing rules of what’s “in.”
Comparison is just our mind’s way of doubting what we already know to be true. So yes—let’s definitely lose the weight of this one. Let’s stop questioning ourselves and start embracing our own unique style, taste, and confidence.
Because the most beautiful spaces (and people) are the ones that are authentically themselves.
Stop waiting for the “right time” or “ideal conditions.”
Done is better than perfect, and peace lives in progress.
One of my favorite pieces of advice comes from Jody Moore on her podcast Better Than Happy. She says, “B-minus work is good enough.” Isn’t that such a relief?
If we keep waiting for things to be perfect, chances are we’ll never get on with it. And while we’re stalling, guess who shows up? Yep—comparison. Followed closely by decision fatigue. And just like that, we’re underwater.
You know what’s better than perfection?
Good and done.
Let yourself move forward—even if it’s imperfect, even if it’s a little messy. Progress creates peace. And momentum? That’s where the magic is.
